Welcome to Year 5 Yellow Base
Mrs Craig, Mrs Eason and Mrs Wolstenholme welcome you to Year 5 Yellow Base!
Welcome to our class page, where you will find all the useful information that you need for the year ahead.
Our day starts at 8:40am when our door will be open for children to settle into class with a morning activity until 8:50am. Our day ends at 3:20pm.
Our PE days are Wednesday (Indoor PE) and Thursday (Outdoor PE).
Children need to come in their P.E. kit which is trainers, black shorts/bottoms, a white or house-team colour t-shirt and black zip up jacket. Please make sure your child can remove their own earrings or remove these prior to PE on these days. Thank you.
Homework is set each week as follows:
Spellings. These are set on Spelling Shed. Your child will have their own login details to practise these online but will also receive a paper copy of these spellings to learn at home. Please note that 10 new spellings are set to learn every Friday afternoon linked to your child's age and stage in the curriculum. The children are tested on these words in class each Friday morning.
Reading
In Year 5, we encourage children to read a minimum of 5 times in a week for at least 15 minutes at a time. This will greatly help your child build fluency in reading. There are a wide-range of books available in both our class and school library that your children can borrow to read. They will keep their own record of books read on their "Shelfie" and have opportunities to recommend books to friends in class.
As well as regular reading and spelling, we hand out half-termly homework projects based upon the upcoming topic in class. These are listed on the Knowledge Organisers that are sent home with your child at the end of each half term. Please also continue to encourage your child to practise their times tables on TT Rockstars and Purple Mash. This proved to be such a huge success in Y4 and will help your child considerably in their maths learning as they move further up through school.
