Welcome to Purple Base Year 2!

Mrs Wormleighton, Miss Parkin, Mrs Crookes, Mrs Flinders and Mrs Wolstenholme welcome you to Year 2!

Welcome to our class page, where you will find all the useful information that you will need during your time in our class.

If there is any information that you can't find on our class page, please get in touch with the school office by email and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Our day starts at 8:40amwhen our door will be open for children to come in until 8:50am. Our day ends at 3:20pm.

PE

Our PE days are Tuesday and Friday. Children need to come to school in their PE kit.

This includes:

Trainers

Dojo team coloured t-shirt

Black shorts/bottoms

Black zip up/jumper/hoodie

Please come and see me if you are unsure what team your child is in. Be aware your child needs long hair tied back and to be able to remove their own earrings on these days as well

Spellings

In Key Stage One we will also practice reading and spelling the Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words. These will be sent home at the beginning of each half term in reading records and will be highlighted when the children can read and spell these.

We learn a new spelling rule each week which is on the termly homework sheet. You can support your child by playing spelling games and practicing writing the spellings - maybe in your fanciest coloured pens! In addition to this, they will also need to practise key words from the Year 1/2 Spelling List.

Reading

Homework is daily reading. Please make sure you write in your child’s reading record once you have read with them. The aim is to read a minimum of 5 times in a week, for 5 to 10 minutes per time. This will greatly help your child build fluency in reading. Our book swap day is Monday where children doing phonics will receive a new book if they have brought their old book back.

We love reading books from our  reading spine. Regular reading at home really does help your children to become fluent confident readers. Therefore, we ask that they read at home at least 5 times in a week. This could be, for example, a school book, comic, magazine or recipe. We know that finding the time can be tricky but reading regularly at home really does make a difference. We kindly ask that your child brings their reading book and reading record in a book bag every day. They will be changed every week.

Each half term we will have a knowledge organiser and a new topic. In half term one, our topic is called ‘The Great Fire of London'
