Welcome to Year 6 Blue Base
Miss Bushell and Mr Fox are delighted to welcome you and your child to Year 6 Blue Base!
We are looking forward to a fantastic year together, filled with exciting learning, new experiences and plenty of opportunities for the children to grow in confidence and independence.
This is our class page, where you will find all the important information you’ll need throughout the year.
The School Day
Our school day begins at 8:40am, with doors open until 8:50am. The school day finishes at 3:20pm.
PE
Our PE days are:
- Monday – Outdoor PE
- Friday – Indoor PE
Children should come to school in their PE kit on these days. This should include trainers, black shorts or bottoms, their house team T-shirt and a black zip-up jacket.
Please ensure earrings are removed before PE, or that your child can remove them independently. Long hair should also be tied back.
Homework
Reading: Children should read for 10–15 minutes each day, aiming for at least 5 times a week. They can choose a book from school, the library or home.
Spellings: Weekly spellings will be sent home, along with a spelling plan each half term. Children can practise their spellings using their Spelling Shed account. Key words from the Key Stage 2 spelling lists should also be practised.
Maths: Our focus will be on fluency. Children should practise times tables and number facts using Times Table Rock Stars.
We will also provide knowledge organisers and a half-termly homework project linked to our class topic.
Our First Topic
During half term one, our topic is called 'Battles, Blackouts and the Blitz'.
We can’t wait to get started and look forward to sharing a happy, exciting and successful year with you all!
